A day off...

We were thinking back to the last Chemo treatment in Houston and remembering the time we had visiting our hosts at their lovely lake house. We enjoyed beautiful Lake Livingston, located near Houston. In a word- PEACEFUL.

It’s always nice to sleep a little late, & visit with wonderful, giving people. Not just generous- but opening their home so we can have the little bit of “ normal “ we long for as we are away from our own home. We spent the afternoon listening to perfect music while we cooked and then finished off the day making the most delicious homemade ice cream... ( recipe to follow )  I think maybe the best I have eaten since I was a kid.

Theres nothing better than watching the peaceful view and letting grace wash over you. Gearing up for the coming week, yes, but now just a little sweeter, slower thinking as we prepare to return back home. Thank you to those angels
here on earth...

Hope you plan to take a day off soon.  You ready for

that ice cream recipe ?  Here you go... enjoy.

2 1/2 Cups Milk
2 1/2 cups of half & half

Farmhouse Memories

For those of you who may have never had the opportunity to:

 1. Grow up in the country or  2. Visit the country,  let me just say, you are totally missing out. Such great memories...

On the way home from dinner in the “big city” ( Fort Worth, Texas ) ... as I neared our little off road ,  I slowed W-A-Y down  and rolled the windows down to once again hear the sounds of the country. A chorus of creaking, croaking and chirping took me back in time.

As I rounded each little corner I was pleasantly taken back to my childhood. My Grandparents on both sides lived on a farm. One was “in-town” but had a large garden -One had a much larger farm out of  “town”, but the sights and sounds of each made for a lifetime of memories. . .
A million flooded through my mind, taking my thoughts away & sending soothing waves of joy.

Grandma would meet us at the door, wiping her hands on her favorite apron ( one of which now hangs in my own kitchen from a favorite hammered silver spoon )  inviting us in for an afternoon visit that was sure to include some of her homemade chicken, mashed potatoes you wanted to just dive into, and green beans that anyone would love !

  Always loving silverware- this
was a perfect way to hang my
 grandma's apron that I inherited !

Gotta love aprons. . . . .

 *See my Pinterest Silver
   board here.

And it just happens to work great in my kitchen...

Following up the laughter, delicious meal and great times were the best apricot pies .. or chocolate.. or coconut that she had made ahead- Just in case & LOVING every second of it.  ( She cooked for 8 children of her own all her life )

Every visit ended with the same apron being used to dab the corners of her eyes as we headed out the door, piling in the car, and leaving her once again to her quiet little country house.

Do you have a favorite memory ?  share it with us and
smile as you remember.

Till next time ( more farmhouse memories later ..)

To Market we went.. Continued

You would think this little piggy went to a different Market- possibly the Farmer’s market, not the Dallas Market.
Makes me want to pack a picnic lunch and grab my Darling.
Don’t these guys just make the Farmhouse style more fun than just about any other showroom ?  They go out of their way to keep the vintage style fresh and updated.

For us this is a non-stop, just plain FUN showroom for us to visit.
The ideas just fly around in our little heads... display heaven. What ideas can you round up for
 your home ?
This is a change of style, but none the less a wonderful treat for your eyes at
ParkHill Collection- another favorite showroom. Farmhouse love !

I do so love lanterns...
Nothing more romantic than candlelight and lightening bugs
in the Summer...  Go grab your Darling and the light those candles. Don't you just love
Lanterns?  There are so many new choices out there. ( see older post - Shed a little light...Today's Lanterns )

Daily Joy

Well, here we are again. To Houston for scans, testing and
“ check-em-ups ” as the kids would say..
Trying to find the joy in our travels, we stop and look around occasionally to see what peaks our interest. Hey, if you have to be here, then we try to maintain our sense of humor and keep both eyeballs peeled. ( As my Dad says )

This is what we found today-

Lovely flowers blooming, literally in the garden next to where we valet the car every time we come up to the hospital...

Just thought this was one of
the most beautiful purple   flowering vines I had seen in awhile- Anyone know what it might be?
Just the most delicate looking
flowers. Lovely.

Asparagus Fern...I think, someone correct me if not.

Down the street , near Hotel ZaZa-awaits a wonderland of uplifting areas in which to chill out, stop and smell the flowers, or watch the beautiful fountains !  ( Free )

Cancer Survivors Plaza.. a lovely place not to be missed !

Each plaque has a different encouraging note from someone on it...
each intended to bring to you JOY...

Can you hear the JOY bubbling up from the
fountain..?

We enjoy the fact that HE gives us living water, so that we may LIVE with the cancer and look for the JOY in being here for a time...
We live, with a peace
that truly passes our earthly understanding. Amazing
Grace he gives when we ask.

Oh , and did I mention
JOY ?
Even though we are acutely aware of the fact that my
Darling has cancer, life is
sometimes VERY messy &
 not always so fun...
we ask God for a daily dose of his peace so that we may continue to have the joy that only HE can give, and No One can take away.
Being normal and human, I
sometimes let it slip away, and occasionally I find myself wallowing in pity.. but only for a moment.
Too much to do , sweet memories
yet to make...

A short, one hour away- Galveston awaits. It is raining today- a nice departure from the 107 degrees at home ( not a pun on our store, I promise ) and about 73 degrees here in the Houston area. We are finished with my Darlings testing.. and it’s only 1:20 p.m. , so we decide to head out Galveston way and see the sights. . . .

Till next time-  ( a continued post on Dallas Market soon )
