Tennessee Tidbits Too-

We found another great little day trip when visiting in Tennessee and wanted to share.

It is a lovely little town , laid back , full of things to see- thought we would tell you about a couple of them so you can go see for yourselves..

We were in the quaint little town of  Bell Buckle, TN.

The town, although quite small offered a “home-town” charm complete with a cafe on the square 
( great burger )  several small antique shops, and a wonderful ice cream parlor complete with beautiful, original display cases. The kind of case that has rich & dark ( not chocolate , although it sounds good..)  wooden fronts and original glass...

Don't you just love the patina of dark aged wood , &  the way old

glass ages ?   Just gorgeous. 

Had to show you up close.. cute,  right ?  just so quaint ! 

Our favorite antique shop , Phillips General Store- was styled , stacked and otherwise 
 A-R-T-F-U-L-L-Y  laid out - truly , the man’s a display genius !      

The owners are 3rd generation antiques dealers, and have the ability to style the store , literally by “ Color “.  Beautiful -  I didn’t want to leave.

The owner  was very friendly, & sent us down the street to his Fathers Ice Cream shop- the one complete with all the original dark wooden  vintage counters. Oh , and really

delicious ice cream.

I managed to snap a few photos for you to enjoy the layout of this favorite antique shop in Historic Bell Buckle, TN.

White, dove white, creamy whites, off whites..   All beautiful.

Choose from jsut about any color you like- It was there...

I am always drawn to the calming shades of greens

Do they have blue you ask ?  Well, of course... It was like a rainbow in his shop !

Another great place to just enjoy the day , eat a little.. shop some and breath a deep sigh.

All in All- Tennessee is just beautiful, friendly people and a nice place to unwind your clocks.

P.S. Still trying to get to that chair... or bench.. been in

       the hospital here in Houston with My Darling all

       week.  It's down on the list of priorities at the moment.

      Hoping to get one done soon to show you.

Tennessee Tidbits

Having just returned from the beautiful state of  Tennessee , we have a few 

pictures and list of some fun things to do and see while in the area.

We stayed in little cabins in the Henry Horton State Park . Beautiful walking

areas, a lovely little river- The Duck River to enjoy and close to the lovely little areas of Franklin and Chapel Hill and Pottsville, TN.

Very picturesque !

One of the highlights of our trip was getting to eat at Marcy Jo’s MealHouse

for breakfast. Getting to meet not only Marcy Jo, but also her brother and

sister-in-law- the AMA award winning singers, Joey & Rory Feek.

We love their show on RFDTV and the slow and easy life they try to live - of

course when not traveling singing across the country.

Such fun, and truly was great to meet them, but the warmth and charm of the

little MealHouse was delightful and relaxing .  It’s located in Pottsville, TN. About 35-40 minutes from Nashville.

What about the food you ask ?   YUM- the best I have had in awhile. Definitely Made

 by hand, definitely made with LOVE. 
They love what they do and it shows. Keeping it simple-  It’s working

for them. 
We're pretty certain it works for all the little things in life :)

Another great area is the little town of Franklin and on out a little ways

towards Leiper’s Fork.  Small antique stores, little gift shops, charming little

places to eat.  Really nice people.  Linsey of LLH designs has just  been fortunate
enough to be relocated there recently.  She is one lucky lady !

The drive out towards Leiper Fork is lovely ( especially in the Fall ) but when

you get there- a quick visit to Puckett’s Grocery Store and the little Art Gallery Next door will provide you with plenty of local charm . Not much to do.. few small, but lovely shops but that’s kind of the point. Just to sit in rocking chairs and totally R-E-L-A-X.

My Darling.. just hanging out.

If you want to drive out a few miles you can see the home places of The Judds or

catch a glimpse of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill’s home there. Maybe even run into

them...
 or Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban.  They all live close and frequently can be seen just being “normal” folks around town. Be sure to visit Pucketts Grocery- they have an "open- mic" night where you never know just who might show up to join in the fun.

I KNOW. . . you want to go now.

There are also numerous old Plantation houses, Civil War Battle sites , beautiful old

cemeteries all across the state. Steeped in history , the towns are proud to share

the old homes and stories with the public.

that had the most beautiful Antique shop. Just to stroll down the
quaint little downtown area and enjoy the Fall was so relaxing.

Courage

I have several favorite blogs that I check in on almost daily- 

one is  Nesting Place.  As I was enjoying her blog several days ago, 
 I began to think about what it actually requires ( at least for me )  to use less, to be content

 and enjoy our life a little more.

Using Less , and having less to keep up with , requires the ability to

say NO.  Sounds Simple.  Right ? 

Sure-  but what else  ?  

It takes a certain amount of resolve to be contented with what we

 have, to acknowledge that we have enough, & possibly to step

 away from the S-A-L-E  table :)   Or in my case. . . Vintage shops .

I think it also, and most importantly , requires a large dose
of  Courage.

It is wonderfully freeing  to muster up all the Courage we have

and say a flat NO to a growing list of “ things” we think we really need

to do, when we really just need to stay at home and enjoy our life.

A life that we have worked so hard to create. To visit friends, actually write

a letter. . . Remember those ?  Bake a cake.  Sit out on our porch and enjoy

the Fall.

It takes a huge amount of  Courage to tell our children that the one activity they participate in ,  is enough.  Ever feel like you live in the car ?

I thought so. . . 

It takes an endless supply of  Courage  to be ourselves, enjoy what we have

and acknowledge that is ok to say NO to “ things” that yes , would bring enjoyment , but know the absence of will not be missed.

We stepped away from our  busy life- we even rescheduled a Chemo this last week , just to be able to recharge our batteries... unwind our clocks and gather the Courage to face daily life, with JOY when we get back home.

We took an opportunity to take a quick Get-a-way up into the beautiful state of

Tennessee for a few days ,  see the turning leaves and brilliant Autumn rolling 

in to greet us. 

Now , what do you need to gather up your Courage for this week ?  What 

do you need to bow out of gracefully ?  Or maybe just a- " Thank you " for the opportunity , 

and a flat, but nicely said NO.

                                                                      We will post again real soon with some photos and Not to Miss things to

                                                                      see near the Nashville, TN area. We did have a lovely time.. and are 

                                                                     somewhat recharged and unwound.

Spooky Greetings...

Don't you just love Vintage Halloween postcards ?

It’s always a thrill to see the little ones, dressed up and ready to head out to a thrilling evening of frights, thrills and lets not forget the piles & piles of candies that we all have to hide until.. almost Christmas, right ?

This is about as scary as I like. . . 

Bags will be overflowing with treats...  Scary stories will be told & retold at lunch with friends the next day.

My very favorite scene related to Halloween is from a wonderful  movie starring Judy Garland. 

It is “Meet Me in St. Louis “.  

When the smallest member of the family Tutti is hurt during the neighborhood festivities,  her sister, Ester ( July Garland ) is led to believe it was at the hand of the boy next door.  The fur flies , fists fly and the neighbor boy receives all her fury. (  Boy, and how.. )

Tutti, of course is stretching the truth greatly ! 

As the entire family is retelling stories of the evening and eating cake, they discover that Tutti is just that - ( A TOOT ) and now Ester has to eat just slightly more than cake -   

Can we say crow..?

  An apology is definitely in order to her new neighbor ! !

Such a cute movie- if you haven’t seen it, take a minute with your sweetie or grandkids and enjoy. Good anytime, but some great Halloween scenes 

and great family fun.

Now, for my own personal treat- I need to finish my church pew and wish myself a Happy “BOO” day.  Now for that cake. . . 

Have fun out there with your little ones. And, watch out for those Spooks ,

Ghost & Goblins :)
